This is a candid account that reveals much. Simply because it is being written at this moment when I have committed to other task illustrates that I am clearly guilty of the practice known as Creative Avoidance.
Yep. I have a legal-sized page of commitments, having agreed to complete the tasks within the next 48 hours. Well, now it’s closer to 26 hours, but you can easily see where this is heading….
None of the agreed upon tasks are dangerous. None are difficult. I won’t land with a thud if I creatively avoid the list. But I also won’t progress towards the targeted finish line, which dictates that I will perhaps experience a twinge or seven of “oops. Damn. Shoulda….”
It’s a choice. I can be sidetracked to the point of being derailed, or I can re-focus my mind and place my fingertips on the keyboard, and I can breathe deep that gift of oxygen while it is still available. I can stay the course, can adjust the wing flaps and can still make it to the destination, if that’s what I choose.
Or I can pet the bull-puppy, look at how badly my fingers need manicured, read an inspirational tarot card, re-heat some Panda gourmet, and sort thru email and blog posts.
Tomorrow, I’m committed to rewarding myself with the blog and email only after my list is complete. Tomorrow…there’s always tomorrow….
My friend just called. We’re off to see “a really cool new” shopping district….
I really like this post. Oh we are SO creative at avoiding.
