Inanna: Descent, Death & Divine Resurrection
Today’s Divine Feminine Goddess Energy Spotlight is on the goddess I most embody. Inanna, the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, war, transformation, and the Underworld is not merely a goddess of light or beauty—she is the embodiment of the full cyclical journey: life, death, and rebirth.
Inanna is the original initiator. The first mythological figure known to make the perilous descent into the Underworld—not to rescue someone else, but to face her own shadow. She voluntarily stripped away her titles, jewels, and power symbols at each of the seven gates, descending naked and vulnerable into the depths.
She was killed there. And she rose again.
Her story is not just a myth—it’s an archetype etched into the feminine psyche. Every woman who has faced loss, betrayal, burnout, or breakdown has walked this descent. The “dark night of the soul” is not punishment—it’s initiation. It’s how the goddess is reborn within you.
You see, Inanna didn’t emerge from the Underworld unchanged. She didn’t put her mask back on and return to business as usual. She returned whole. Integrated. More powerful because of her descent, not in spite of it.
This is the divine feminine path of transformation.
Not bypassing pain. Not avoiding the shadow. But meeting it, owning it, and becoming more you because of it.
If you’ve ever hit rock bottom and rebuilt yourself from ashes, you’ve met Inanna.
If you’ve faced truths you didn’t want to see and still chose growth, you’ve embodied her.
And if you’re in the descent now—raw, uncertain, undone—know this: you are not broken. You are becoming. is the divine feminine path of transformation.
Your Prompt Today:
Reflect on your own “dark night of the soul” and what it taught you.
Was there a moment that brought you to your knees, only to open you up to deeper truth? What did you leave behind—and what was reborn within you?
Write about it. Speak about it. Honor it.
And if you’re brave, share your reflection in the comments or on your socials and tag @Jan_Deelstra—you never know who your story might help rise.
The Path to Sovereignty Is Through the Descent
Inanna teaches us that wholeness isn’t perfection—it’s reclamation. She urges you to stop pretending, to stop patching over the cracks. Instead, descend. Strip away what no longer serves. And rise, like her, radiant in your authenticity.
We’re not here to “bounce back.” We’re here to transform.
