As I write this post, it’s Women’s Equality Day. This corner of the world is filled with a lot of push-pull politics and disharmony that has me thinking back to a time when women couldn’t have credit or hold property in their own names. I think about the struggles that women have fought for over the generations. We’ve made some progress. And we’ve lost some footing. What I know for sure is that women are not yet equal globally, or even in the country that (purely as a chance of birth) I was born into.

Some men have joined us to support equality, and some have dug in to oppose equality with a stubborn and dangerous ferocity. Many of these “dug in” men write legislation that controls women, minorities, and those with alternative lifestyles. These men represent the antithesis of all that I believe in. And frankly, I have no respect for any man or woman who supports the subjugation of others, whether passively through institutions, through patriarchal religious dogma, or through legislation that oppresses others, or in the case of the United States currently, BOTH—there is beginning to be no separation of religion and state in America. The men who DO support equality for all, are the secure, logical men who recognize the value in equality. And the men you don’t support equality…well, there’s nothing good to say about their thinly veiled insecurities and ignorance. And as far as women who fight against equality, well there’s a special place for them….

I’m going to be honest here: I am getting really tired of the (mostly white, mostly “christian”) men who are legislating hate and inequality and blatant racism, and who are supporting genocides, are building prisons to house anyone who disagrees, are wiping out democracy, and are doing it all under the skirts of their church. They use lies, fear, and war mongering as their weapons, and think that they can hide what they’re doing. But they cannot. Corruption under any name still stinks. They proudly call it Christian Nationalism as if that’s a grand and powerful thing; I will still call it Fascism. I will call it out. And whatever that means in the future, I hope it eventually means real equality for everyone, But it’s been a long time since I first protested. And right now, it feels like it’s only getting worse.

What do YOU think? Are women “equal” in your estimation? Are ALL people equal? Are YOU?
