Mary Magdalene (Biblical/Esoteric) – Keeper of divine wisdom, distorted by history

Few figures in history have been more misrepresented than Mary Magdalene. Once a trusted confidante and beloved disciple of Jesus, her legacy was systematically rewritten to diminish her power and influence. Over thousands of years, patriarchal forces twisted her story, reducing her from a revered spiritual teacher to a repentant sinner. But why? And how can we restore her rightful place among the divine feminine goddesses?

The Erasure of Mary Magdalene’s Truth

Before the patriarchal distortion, Mary Magdalene was known as one of Jesus’ closest disciples—perhaps even his most trusted. The Gnostic Gospels, including the Gospel of Mary, depict her as a teacher in her own right, one who understood Christ’s esoteric teachings more deeply than the male disciples. She was referred to as the “Apostle to the Apostles” because she was the first to witness the resurrection and was chosen to deliver the message of his return.

But in 591 AD, Pope Gregory I delivered a sermon that changed everything. He conflated Mary Magdalene with an unnamed “sinful woman” mentioned in Luke 7:37, labeling her a prostitute. This false narrative took hold, persisting for centuries and effectively stripping Mary of her authority, wisdom, and rightful position as a leader in early Christianity. It wasn’t until 2016 that the Vatican officially corrected this mistake, acknowledging her role as a disciple rather than a penitent prostitute.

Why Was Her Story Distorted?

The suppression of Mary Magdalene’s true story was no accident—it was an intentional act to erase the divine feminine from history. A powerful woman, one with spiritual authority and direct access to Christ’s teachings, posed a threat to the emerging patriarchal church structure. The early Christian church sought to consolidate power in male leadership, and Mary Magdalene, with her intimate knowledge of sacred wisdom, was an obstacle to that control. By casting her as a fallen woman, they ensured that future generations would view her through a lens of shame rather than reverence.

Restoring Mary Magdalene’s Legacy

Mary Magdalene was not a harlot—she was a priestess of divine wisdom, a spiritual teacher, and a healer. To restore her rightful place among the divine feminine goddesses, we must:
Reclaim Her Story – Read and share the suppressed texts, such as the Gospel of Mary, that reveal her true role in early Christianity.
Embody Her Teachings – Mary Magdalene symbolizes devotion, divine wisdom, and unconditional love. Meditate on her energy and allow her to guide you in your own spiritual awakening.
Challenge the Patriarchal Narrative – Speak out against historical inaccuracies and honor the divine feminine by lifting the voices of women who have been silenced.
Embrace Radical Love and Forgiveness – Just as Mary Magdalene stood in her truth despite the distortions, we, too, can hold compassion for ourselves and others as we reclaim our divine power.

A Call to Embody the Divine Feminine

Mary Magdalene’s legacy is not lost—it is rising. Her story is a call to all women to step into their power, to own their spiritual authority, and to refuse to be erased. Today, let her serve as a reminder that the divine feminine cannot be silenced forever. As we honor her, we honor the divine feminine in ourselves.

Mary Magdalene is not just a historical figure—she is a living energy within each of us. And she is waiting to be remembered. It’s up to us to embody this divine feminine energy.

Prompt for Today: Reflect on the ways society has diminished the power of women’s voices. How has this played out in your own life? How can you embody the wisdom and divine knowing of Mary Magdalene today? Reclaim a part of yourself that was once silenced. What action will you take today to own your voice?
