March is Women’s History Month 

Throughout history, there have been incalcucable numbers of women who have raised the bar for what it means to be an empowered woman. So as difficult as it is to focus on just a few historical figures, for Women’s History Month, I’ve decided to spotlight 30 powerful women who left their indelible mark on history. We all stand on their shoulders, and I am happy to briefly highlight some that come to mind. This spotlight could shine until the end of time, and it would still not be enough time to give credence to all the women who have impacted my life, let alone those who came before. Yet, I have decided on this brief handful, for the month of March. Let me know who comes to your mind as you read about these women who have shaped our lives for the better.

#1: Maya Angelou – The Power of Words and Resilience

Born: April 4, 1928
Died: May 28, 2014

Maya Angelou was a force of nature—a poet, author, and civil rights activist who used her voice to inspire and uplift. Her literary works, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, broke barriers, bringing the experiences of Black women into mainstream literature. Overcoming racism, trauma, and oppression, she became a beacon of strength, teaching generations the power of resilience and self-expression.

Her contributions to literature, activism, and the arts have left an indelible mark on history. Angelou’s words remind us that our stories hold power, our voices matter, and our legacy is shaped by how we make others feel.

Why She Inspires Us Today
Maya Angelou’s life is a testament to perseverance and courage. She refused to let her past define her future, instead transforming pain into poetry and adversity into action. Her wisdom continues to guide women to stand tall, speak boldly, and embrace their full potential.
